Over the years, we have moved countless upright piano, baby, and grand pianos. Recently, a customer from Falkirk contacted us to ask for a baby grand to be moved through to Stirling. We were delighted to help and once we arrived on the day it was a straight forward move ground floor to ground floor. The piano itself was around 100 years old and had battle scars from previous moves and years of play. Regardless of this, we still protected it as if it was brand new: furniture blankets and with secure strapping once in the van.
The customer was keen to get his hands dirty and assist with lifting it which was a generous offer considering the weight! However, we explained that a piano removal is a specialised job which we are trained to do so we declined. We are also only insured for our removal men, not for the general public and lifting with someone who is not experienced also creates a health and safety risk which may cause serious injury.
We required 3 porters for this baby grand piano move and door to door it took around 2.5 hours overall. It can be done with 2 porters sometimes but I believe 3 are required for safety. If this piano was moving up or downstairs then we would need 1 or 2 extra porters. Thankfully, they are usually downstairs!
